Give your time to the catchment
Spend a Saturday ankle-deep in a burn, lend a skill, or simply turn up. Our volunteer days run right across the Cromarty Firth catchment, and every pair of hands makes a measurable difference.
Volunteer days run from March through November across the Cromarty Firth catchment, with various locations and activities on offer. Every task is hands-on and each session makes a measurable difference to the river system. We work with our partners to ensure you find out about all the opportunities on offer, whether that's working with the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative or a Go Flourish planting day.
No experience or special fitness is required, just a willingness and a can-do attitude. You can come to one volunteer day or come to all of them, and we will send you dates that suit your availability.
Volunteer sign-up
Tell us a little about yourself and what you are up for, and we will be in touch with upcoming dates that match your availability and interests, including an invitation to our monthly newsletter.
Ways to roll your sleeves up
We advertise several types of volunteer days across the catchment. Here are a few examples of the way in which you can get involved at the Crom-Shed.
Riverbank planting
Native trees and riparian species along eroded banks of the tributaries of our major river systems. Reduces runoff and knits together habitat corridors.
Invasive Species Removal
Managing and removing non-native invasive species to stop the spread and limit the damage they cause to our local environment.
Horticulture
Get your hands dirty by helping to maintain gardens and community polytunnels, as well as learning invaluable self-sustenance skills.
Events and Community Days
Supporting us with our outreach programme by providing another pair of hands for our events. Ranging from junior angling to litter picking on the beach.
Riverfly monitoring
Kick-sampling invertebrates as part of the national Riverfly Partnership network. A genuinely interesting morning on the water.
Data and Surveying
Join us, or a partner organisation, completing surveys during the summer seasons to help maintain important biological records across the catchment.
