Coastal communities and climate pressures
Using nature to lead the way in which we approach the change in our coastal areas to protect the communities most affected by sea-level rise and climate change.
What we are doing
We partnered with the University of Edinburgh, to join their 8-year-long project - Living Shores. We'll get the community involved through voluntary participation in research to help collect data and build our knowledge about the habitats, ecological condition and cultural value of the sites. We hope to help our partners advocate for an important shift in coastal practices to create socially and ecologically positive coastal and flood defenses.
Why it matters
Our involvement will help to contribute to regional and national climate adaptation research and innovation. Coastal flooding is a high-risk area for the UK's communities, businesses and infrastructures, so we need to act now to avoid human, ecological and economic loss. Nature-based solutions can bolster the green transition, benefiting the health of the ecosystems and the people who live there.
